What was Samantha like?

Samantha was my first child. She was very funny and witty, She loved to make everyone laugh from her earliest days. Yet, she was shy, quiet and adorable. Her smile brightened the room. She has left a huge Samantha. sized hole in our hearts.

Favorite memory of Samantha

There are so many. Even through her addiction, I have so many memories of Sam. She danced for years, eventually competitively. Her first dance recital when she was five, she loved being on the stage. I loved watching her dance. She was so beautiful – not so graceful but loved dancing, music and art. One night when I wasn’t feeling well she said Mom, I am going to hold you and comfort you like you always do for me and climbed into my bed and held me and rubbed my back.

What will be missed most about Samantha

I miss her love, her hugs, her smile, her laughter, her beautiful face, hearing her say Mama, I love you. Her voice. I miss all the “what would have been” for her. I miss her presence in my life, in her sister’s life.

How will Samantha like to be remembered?

Samantha would like to be remembered not for her addiction but for her heart. She would want to help others struggling with addiction, the addict and their loved ones. She would want to be remembered in battling this crisis we have in our country and her concern for what she said “they are killing a generation of people”. If her suffering and pain and ultimate death can save one person, she would want to be remembered for that.
